Greetings, hi, hello.

Welcome to my site. This is where I showcase my work and write about this thing called life. Enjoy!

Weekend coffee #76.

So I started that Dylan documentary I mentioned last week. What I didn’t realize (how I don’t know) is that it’s a Scorcese film. Let’s just say, I’m not a big fan. Concise isn’t in his vocab, and I’m not sure the man has ever made a movie that’s under two hours long. So rather than enjoy in one sitting, I’m slogging through in sections. It’s enjoyable albeit time-consuming so watcher be warned.

In other news, I’m less than two weeks out from vacation and I can’t freaking wait. That also means that I need to keep myself focused and in check until we leave…something that’s already proving to be a challenge. So here’s what I was thinking about this week:

  • Big Mood Machine by Liz Pelly. I’ve mentioned my interest in surveillance capitalism before once or twice (I think?) and this article makes a case for how Spotify is following a myriad of other tech companies down that rabbit hole. I sometimes wonder if there’s escaping anymore.

  • On the well-documented tip, my love of Robyn and “Dancing on My Own,” which this NPR piece covers in-depth. I love a good deep dive into a single set of lyrics but hope no one ever tries to decipher mine. Added bonus of the footage from after the MSG show earlier this year.

  • I’m not usually one for whimsy, but I thoroughly enjoy these crocheted leaves. I imagine they’d be rather enchanting framed on the wall in a guest bedroom or some sort of reading nook. Also, how does she even do that? I see myself just destroying countless leaves in the process.

  • Why Working-Class New Yorkers Drop Their “Rs.” I, like many other East Coasters, often pretend that I don’t have an accent. That for whatever reason, my speech pattern is proper American English (is that a thing?). I also know full well that I’m very, very wrong in this instance.

  • Here for this Daria-spinoff in a major way. I was always fond of the Jodie character (and sing her part from Daria the Musical to myself sometimes. Plus having Tracee Ellis Ross behind the project makes it all that much better.

  • Instead of something off my never-ending wish list, let’s all admire this bonkers house that’s for sale in Vermont. I would say that’s surprising, but nothing is ever really that surprising in Vermont. It’s a unique entity, just like this “sukiya.”

Until next time - thanks for following along.
